Enhancing Physical Activity Through Imageable Spaces: An Urban Tissue Analysis
This capstone project for Theories of Urban Design examined urban tissue analysis to evaluate physical and psychological factors that promote outdoor physical activity. Routes were selected using Strava user data, and imageability elements were analyzed through on-site behavioral observations. The study found a strong relationship between higher imageability, defined as the visual and experiential qualities that make a place memorable, and increased use of spaces for activity. This highlights the importance of thoughtful urban design in encouraging active lifestyles.

Assessing Healthcare Access for Populations with Ambulatory Disabilities to Teaching Hospitals
This study analyzed access to teaching hospitals, which have been shown to provide higher quality care and better patient outcomes, for individuals with ambulatory disabilities. ArcGIS network analysis tools were used to evaluate access levels. While the analysis did not reveal significant disparities specifically for populations with ambulatory disabilities, it found that teaching hospitals were generally inaccessible across Cook County.
